Catisfield Gardening Club is a local friendly and welcoming Club which meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month with the exception of January, July and December at the Catisfield Memorial Hall to hear talks on gardening and garden related subjects with the aim of learning from the speakers and from fellow members.
We currently have 80+ members and approximately two thirds attend each meeting or event. The Catisfield Memorial Hall has very good parking and good acoustics with comfortable seating and an excellent background screen and demonstrations are projected on to a background screen.
The Annual Subscription is £15 and this represents exceptional value because membership includes admission to all meetings to hear a range of quality speakers, with tea/coffee and biscuits/cakes at no extra charge, a regular informative newsletter, 10% discount (on production of membership card) at St Margaret's Nursery, access to the RHS information data base, entrance to our celebrated garden auction, and a fabulous free buffet at the end of season meeting.
We would suggest there would be difficulty obtaining better value anywhere.
To join either come along to one of our meetings or contact the Chairman Glenn Duggan whose details are shown onthis page.
We have changed the Web Site around a little to make the Meetings Report Page more accessible. It is found at the top of this page. Recently added reports and photos for the Auction held in June and the visit to Hillier's Gardens in July are included.
Next Club Event -
Thursday 9 November at 1930 we hold our Annual General Meeting
The AGM will contain reports from the Club's Officers and details of plans for our 2018 season.
This is followed by an excellent free buffet and light hearted quiz. It is often useful to have read the Club's Newsletters to do well at the Quiz! (tip). Tables compete against each other with the winning table's members benefitting from informal prizes. So seek out those knowledgeable members and sit with them at their table............
On Thursday 12 October Wilf Simcox delivered a talk on "Your Lawn" Wilf provide tips and information to help create that perfect lawn. A report on his talk will appear on the Meeting Reports Page soon.
Our excellent 2017 season is sadly coming to an end and after the October meeting we only have the November AGM and Quiz to come. But do not despair we have an even better programme in 2018. More about that to come!

RHS Banksian Medal
Every Year the Catisfield Gardening Club awards the RHS Banksian Medal and Certificate to the Club'sGardener of the Year.
This prestigous award is made to the person who the Committee feels has contributed most to the Club in the previous 12 months either in the gardening skills and expertise or the Club Member who has contributed most to the Club.
Last year the medal was awarded to Peter Langdon. In presenting this award the Committee recognised that Peter gave a tremendous amount to the Club in 2016. Peter not only travelled the furthest for meetings but was always cheerful and friendly and readily shared his knowledge but he also generously donated several quality items to the Club’s Auction and then supported the Club by purchasing several items at that same Auction. Peter was also prepared to share his expertise as a gardener by giving the Club a talk on getting the most from a small garden and low cost gardening, as well as his various gardening exploits around the world including South Georgia! Postscript:
Unfortunately Peter lost his brave battle against cancer and passed away on 23 July 2017.
The Club's AGM was held at Catisfield Memorial Hall on Thursday 10 November 2016. It was a very successful evening with the Club's treasurer reporting a very sound financial position over funds in excess of £1200 and the Membership Secretary reporting membership at 61 and an average attendance of 60% at each meeting. The Chairman reported a very successful campaign of recruitment through a good quality pamphlet and announced that the same would be done in advance of the 2017 Club Year which commences in February but delivered to a wider area. He also reported a successful transition from having Shows as the focal point of the Club to high quality speakers attending our Club Nights.
The present Chairman and Committee were elected unanimously to serve a further year and they will be joined by Judy Tredore who was unanimously elected to the
Committee and will take up the role of Secretary. Judy will be a very welcome addition to the Committee.
Members unanimously agreed to increase annual subscriptions from £12 to £15. It was noted that there had not been an increase in over 5 years and the additional funds will be welcome to improve even further the quality of our speakers and little additions to the Club's portfolio such as this Web Site. Peter Langdon was then presented with his Gardener of the Year Award and the members adjourned to enjoy a wonderful buffet supper and a light hearted quiz where tables competed with each other. Chocoholic Prizes were presented to the winning table.
